How to photograph gear before selling it online

When you sell used camera gear, small accessories or handmade objects online, buyers judge trust very quickly. A clean photo does three things: it shows the real condition, removes doubt and makes the listing easier to compare.

Photos that help buyers trust the listing

  • One full front photo on a plain background.
  • One close-up of the brand, model or label.
  • One photo of scratches, wear or defects if they exist.
  • One photo with a hand or common object for scale.
  • One image showing what is included in the sale.

Simple lighting setup

Use soft light instead of direct flash. If you shoot near a window, turn off mixed room lights that create strange colors. If you shoot at night, use two soft light sources and keep the background simple.

For very small objects

Small items such as batteries, mounts, adapters, jewellery, screws, camera caps or accessories are harder to photograph because shadows and reflections become more visible. A mini light box can make the process faster by giving you a clean background and more controlled light.

Hors-Champ has a compact LED mini photo studio at 19.90 € before shipping. It is made for small product photos at home, and the final shipping cost is shown at checkout before payment.

Before posting your listing

Crop the photo square for marketplace feeds, keep the first image simple, and avoid hiding defects. Clear photos do not just make the item look better; they reduce questions and help serious buyers decide faster.
